Amanda Gruhl

Amanda has been dancing since the age of five and has taught, choreographed, and performed: jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical dance, sacred dance, hip hop, East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, and Blues Dance. She has broad experience in many other dance forms such as Argentine Tango, flamenco, popping/breaking, modern dance, and ballroom dance. Amanda started studying Lindy Hop in 1998 with Elizabeth Miller and Kerrin Flanagan at the Lindybaby studio, and was immediately addicted to the creativity and conversational aspects of the dance.

Amanda has been teaching Lindy Hop in Boston since 2000 with various partners, including several national instructors, and currently teaches at the It's All Swing! studio in Boston, MA and at regional workshops with Ogden Sawyer and Shawn Hershey. Amanda started regularly dancing with Ogden Sawyer in early 2000, and since their performance in the Blues Division at the American Lindy Hop Championships in 2000, have developed a reputation for inspiring and emotional partnered Blues Dancing. They have been teaching their own style of Blues Dance since 2002 and regularly travel the country teaching at national events and workshops, most notably Cheap Thrills in St. Louis, MO, Red White and Blues in Dallas, TX, Down Home Blues in San Francisco, CA, and The Emerald City Blues Festival in Seattle, WA. Amanda teaches Blues Dance locally at the It's All Swing! studio, at various workshops for colleges and universities, and at local Blues Dance events with Ogden Sawyer and Shawn Hershey.

Bronwyn Bryant

Bronwyn first learned East Coast Swing from her best friend in Orono, ME in 2001. While getting her undergraduate degree in biology at Brown University (Class of '05), Bronwyn also learned Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Balboa with the Brown Swing Club. She began taking more advanced workshops in 2004, and after her first class with Steven and Virginie in '04, she vowed to dance day and night until her swivels looked as sexy as Virginie's. Since that time, she has focused on fine tuning her Lindy Hop technique by studying with instructors across the country. Most of her inspiration comes from Nina, Frida, and Virginie, and she is known for her playful musicality and energetic dancing. Bronwyn's current goal is to win a solo Charleston contest and has been working hard to make that dream a reality.

During the day, Bronwyn is a research assistant at Brown University, but will soon be attending medical school at the University of Rochester. She plans on continuing to throw those late night blues parties she loves so much, despite the sleep deprivation her studies are sure to provide. She also enjoys making crepes in the morning for those late-nighters who can't seem to make it home. For more information about Bronwyn, visit her studio web page at www.stepetteswing.com.

Davis Thurber

See Davis dance. See Davis swing dance fast. See Davis blues dance slowly. See Davis dance Balboa. See Davis procrastinate at work while practicing choreography in his cubicle. See Davis's dancing spring to life with magical pixie dust applied by Marc-Andre (you didn't know Canadians had that kind of power did you?) before every practice, social dance, and performance.

Dancing since the age of 15, Lindy Hop is Davis' most recent foray into dance. He is also one of Boston's newest phenoms. With a degree in music from Boston College his varied artistic background gives him a unique and intimate understanding of the dynamics of jazz and its application to jazz movement. Davis' easy going attitude and dynamic abilities make him a fun and versatile teacher who really knows how to get a class jumpin' in no time!

Elizabeth Miller

Since 1997, Elizabeth has brought the joy and excitement of social dance to parties, lessons, weddings, dance weekends, and countless other events. She has worked successfully with all kinds of people, from age six to eighty-five, from people with disabilities to accomplished hip hop dancers and ballerinas.

Elizabeth began her dance training in 1992 with modern dance, ballroom, and swing. In 1997 she apprenticed as an instructor with the internationally-renowned swing instructor, Bill Borgida. After moving to Cambridge, MA, she began teaching partner dance and helped to nurture a vibrant swing dance community in the Boston area. Elizabeth went on to teach workshops all over the U.S. and in Canada.

Over the past year, Elizabeth won first place in Boston's Wicked Lindy Jack and Jill Competition, and in Midnight Blues at Olin College. She was a member of the group Streethop, which took first place in the Cabaret Division at the 1999 American Lindy Hop Championships. Currently she is a member of SheBAM!, a high-energy performance troupe. Elizabeth holds a Masters degree in Dance/Movement Therapy, works with autistic children by day, and also teaches ballroom and swing dancing at UMass Boston. To stay in top dancing shape, she studies ballet and hip hop, maintains a regular cardio and core-work regime, and regularly goes out social dancing. For more information about Elizabeth, visit her studio web page at www.youwanttodance.com.

Marc-Andre Vachon

Marc-Andre started swing dancing in Montreal in 2003 under the instruction of Zack and Maryse, and has embraced the crazy attitude of Montreal swing dancers. After rigorous study with many instructors to hone his skills, MA forgot everything he was taught and as a result has developed a creative and highly energetic style all his own. He gains much of his inspiration from Skye Humphries and Max Pitruzella. He has won many Jack & Jill and Strictly competitions up and down the East Coast and in the process has become the inspiration to many aspriring Lindy Hoppers across the country.
When he is not dancing, which is not often (as evidenced by his current plan to complete his PhD in physics at Brown University in 10 years), MA likes to enjoy pints of Guinness with his friends and gaze at the stars. For more information about MA, visit his studio web page at www.stepetteswing.com.

Shawn Hershey

Shawn began studying Lindy Hop from Kerrin Flanagan (now a co-teacher at It's All Swing!) and Elizabeth Miller at the Lindybaby studio in 1999. Having always loved and studied jazz music he was immediately drawn in by the dance. He has studied extensively at camps and workshops across the US with many nationally renowned Lindy Hop instructors. In addition to being an avid social dancer, he has won awards at several national and regional competitions.

Shawn began teaching Lindy Hop with Marilee Annereau in 2002 to help share his love of dance and music. In 2004, he happily joined the It's All Swing! studio and has been teaching there ever since. He has also taught workshops at Boston University with Diana Byrne, Kerrin, and his sister, Betina Hershey. Betina and Shawn were brought to Tokyo in 2004, and again in 2005, to teach Lindy Hop workshops. He currently teaches with Amanda Gruhl at It's All Swing! and regional workshops, and often performs and teaches with Betina. Shawn spends his free time playing trumpet with The Mustn't Grumble and his own band, The All-Lindy Hoppers Band. For more information about Shawn visit his personal web page, www.shawnhershey.com, or the It's All Swing! website at www.itsallswing.com.
